Oscar was Mr Purple from the M litter and
all along I wanted to keep Miss Purple (Mimi) and Mr
Purple, however on looking at photos nobody else seemed to
like Mr Purple so doubt crept in to my mind that I had
made the wrong decision. When Ina and Gail came to collect
and choose their puppy I had already decided that I would
listen to other people and not keep Mr Purple and then Ina
and Gail came and fell in love with him, I carried Oscar
out to the car for them I was swallowing the words back
“no you can't have him you will need to take one of
the others”. Anyway, off Oscar toddled to his new
home in Galashiels where he is utterly spoilt rotten by
Ina. Thankfully someone spotted Oscar and had said to his
owners that really this young pup should be at shows, so
his owners got back in touch and Oscar came up for a trim.
The photo below of Oscar sitting with Erin and his Mum
Freya is from that day. So Oscar was then duly entered in
his first show a local one down in Selkirk and my Mum
handled him in the ring he was by this time 9 months old
and had not had any show training, my Mum sweated absolute
buckets in the ring and I think came out saying never
again! He was 3rd out of 3 (although to be fair
only beaten by his sister Mimi and his brother Brodie) It
was then agreed for his next show the Golden Retriever
Club of Scotland that I would have a bash at showing this
big daft pup and Oscar went in and won all his classes and
Best Puppy Dog and then Gail handled him on to compete
against Mimi and he was awarded Best Puppy in Show! To say
that Oscar was not an easy puppy to show would be an
understatement Gail, Ina and my Mum all had shots of him
but in the end it was settled that I would be taking
charge of this big “muckle eejit”. So now
Oscar is co-owned with myself and Ina, he is very much
Ina's boy and he absolutely adores his Mummy but I now get
the pleasure of showing the Mr Purple I had always wanted.
Oscar has a wonderful friendly
temperament, he gets on very well with all my dogs when he
comes to stay for shows or to visit lady friends! He lives
with Ina and her husband John in Galashiels where he
enjoys his walks up the golf course and the odd visit to
the pub, he then goes to visit Ina's daughter Gail and her
children and the menagerie of chickens, rabbits and guinea
pigs. They all can wander around and Oscar never touches
them in fact he is a bit scared of the chickens as they
peck him and steal his dinner!
On the 10th March 2011 our
dreams came true when to our total surprise Oscar won the
Dog CC, BOB and Gundog Group 4 at CRUFTS 2011. We are all
sooooo proud of him and still in total shock that it has
happened.
The following week Oscar attended the
Joint Clubs Championship Show hosted by Eastern Counties
GRC and from judge Mrs Sue Russell (Rosinate/Rosselle) he
was awarded the Dog CC he then competed against the bitch
CC winner and she was declared Best in Show with Oscar
Reserve Best in Show. He didn't mind one bit as the CC
winner was his sister Mimi! It was an amazing day we are
so proud of both of them.
At LKA Championship Show at the NEC in December Oscar won his 3rd CC to make him now a Show Champion another special day as his litter brother Brodie (Linirgor Macalpine ShCM) won the RCC.
His first puppies are just starting to
enter the ring and are looking very promising.

CRITIQUES
“My star of the day.
Beautiful boy, most lovely head, so well balanced to go
over, excellent length of neck, shoulders and upper arm,
well muscled hindquarters, in wonderful coat and
condition, powerful true mover which really showed when he
had the big green carpet to himself. Did not put a food
wrong and was so well handled. CC, BOB & 4th
in the Group. Well Done” Crufts 2011 Mrs P Tuck
(Tamsbrook)
“pale coated quality dog, lovely
outline, typical head, melting expression, kind dark eye,
good reach of neck, correct shoulder angulation, good
bone, tight feet, deepin in chest, level topline, correct
tailset, well turned stifles, short coupled, moved with
drive covering the ground with ease, well handled. RCC”
Graham Scott (Gunmarsh)
"fabulous young dog, lovely overall
balance and excellent neck and shoulders, exquisite head
with melting expression, when settled has a striking
outline, presented in well groomed pale coat, a top drawer
specimen of our breed, he flew round the ring with style
and purpose really covering the ground. RCC" George
Hennessy (Ritzilyn)
"What a super boy. Nice head, long
clean reachy neck into the best laid shoulders, matching
length of upper arm. Good quarters, moved well. He has
such attitude I would defy any judge not to notice him.
Nicely presented and handled. Close up to the CC winner
just needs a little more maturity of loin and he will be
there. Definitely one for the upper house. RCC" Lynne
Hennessy (Ritzilyn)
"in top form, his excellent body
shape filled my eye completely, looked the real deal for
one so young, well proportioned masculine head without
coarseness, good dark points, excellent lay back of
shoulder & upper arm assembly, strong reachy neck,
strong level topline, well sprung ribs, strong well
developed hindquarters, good feet and pasterns, moved at
one with his handler, put down to perfection. When it came
to rewarding him with the RCC I considered he won this on
shoulder placement and overall balance" Jim
Richardson (Darrochonna)
"caught my eye immediately I saw him
as he has so much quality & such a lovely balanced
outline, masculine head with darkest pigment, straight
front with plenty of bone & neat feet, good reach of
neck & front angulation, strong level topline, good
driving movement covering the ground well with ease from
strong quarters, immaculately presented, in beautiful
thick cream coat. RCC" Barbara Gell (Leithfield)
"What a lovely young dog. So balanced
and full of quality. He excels in bone, body and
substance. Lovely head, good forehand with good depth of
chest and well sprung ribs. Short, strong couplings and
powerful hindquarters. He was a joy to see both standing
and moving" Margaret Woods (Amirene) - Crufts
critique

dog, beautifully presented in superb hard muscular
condition, gorgeous head & expressive eye, deep body,

drive & style to take this class and BIS" Wilma
Gibson (Gemmarique)

expression with soft dark eye, excellent bone & feet,
well put together & finished off with full double coat
which was beautifully presented" Heather Morrss

"Pale boy of substance who caught my
eye as he entered the ring, maturing very well, not a
thing to dislike about him, good reach of neck which flows
into well leaid shoulders, level topline held on the move,
well muscled, sound rear construction. Drove around the
ring" David Arrondelle (Muirbeck)
